Giant mealworms are the same as normal mealworms (Tenebrio molitor beetle larvae), but have been treated with S-Methoprene, a hormone that acts as an insect growth regulator. This hormone prevents larvae from pupating, which allows them to grow larger than normal.
S-Methoprene is not known to cause immediate adverse effects in reptiles and amphibians, but it may affect pet invertebrates such as tarantulas and scorpions.
Our Giant Mealworms are approximately 1 1/2" in length, which is a good size for adult leopard geckos, bearded dragons, and other mid-sized pets. They are perfect for reptiles that want a worm a bit larger than our Large Mealworms, but not quite as big as Superworms.
Our pre-cupped option is great for hobbyists that want a convenient alternative to "boxed" or "bagged" feeders, and pet stores or resellers wanting a professional pre-packaged solution.
Care Instructions:
Mealworms should be kept refrigerated between 42 and 50 degrees. They become dormant at this temperature and stay in perfect condition for up to 30 days.
