Why Reptarium?
Reptarium's Open-air vs. glass tanks.
Reptarium's "open-air" enclosure design is better for the care of most reptile species than glass enclosures. In their natural habitats, reptiles receive constant fresh air. To accomodate this necessity, the Reptarium's mesh allows for increased air circulation. This consideration of the reptile's most basic needs becomes the foundation for your success as a keeper of most reptiles, amphibians, and arthropod species!
Durable Construction.
The nylon mesh is strong and non-abrasive to your pet. All Reptarium's are component based habitats that allow replacement of any piece quickly, easily, and affordably, providing many possible years of service to you and your reptile.
Lighting your Reptarium.
Reptarium's are designed to work with any conventional type of heating for reptiles.
Including: Heat bulbs, Ceramic lamps, Heat pads, Hot Rocks, Heat Tape, and Fluorscent lights. Do NOT rest light bulbs directly on the tubes or mesh material. Always make sure that your lamp's shroud is sufficient to fully house the wattage of the bulb you are using.
Easy Maintenance.
Reptarium makes cleaning and maintenance of your pets habitat easier. And even more so when you use a SofTray accessory (sold separately). Simply treat the decor items appropriately than wash the plastic components in your dishwasher. The Reptarium's mesh can be cleaned in your washing machine (gently cycle and detergent).
Choosing a Reptarium for your reptile is easy!
Reptariums are measured in gallons for your convenience. As a basic rule - if the Reptarium is to become a permanent home for your reptile, try to make it as large as you can. Reptiles, past the juvenile stage, like alot of territory to call their home. Try to build the habitat to resemble your reptiles' native surroundings. Reptariums include 3 frame clips to help attach cords and foliage to it's frame, making your decorating task that much easier.
Natural Sunlight and your Reptarium.
A multi-functional design is another benefit that makes the Reptarium the award winning product it is! With features like light-weight construction and open-air habitat that won't overheat, this enclosure also works both indoor and outdoors so your pet can enjoy it's most important health resource - SUNLIGHT! Since the reptarium doesn't use materials like glass or plexi, which block or filter the ultraviolet of the sun rays, the Reptarium lets your animal enjoy the sun's natural effects on it's system!

Product Instructions
Heating and Lighting the "Open-Air" style Reptarium Enlosure:
The use of hot lamps and heat emitters for the purpose of providing basking areas for your herp is no different than with any other cage/terrarium. However, when using the Reptarium Enclosure, you must make sure that the actual bulb is contained within the lamp's shroud and not making contact with the mesh material. If the hot bulb or element makes contact, it becomes impossible for the mesh to disperse the heat. This will cause the mesh to melt and form a hole in the shape of the contact area.
When choosing a heat lamp for your Reptarium Enclosure, it is important to consider the size and wattage of the light bulb you are using. Is the lamp rated to handle the wattage of the light bulb you are using? When choosing a lamp/shroud, select a larger, ceramic-socketed variety rather than the smaller (60 watt rated) lamp shrouds commonly sold in pet stores. Be mindful of the UL approval listed on the lamp's socket.
Some things to consider about bulb size and wattage:
100watt bulbs are the same size as 60watt bulbs. 100watt and lesser bulbs are recommended to be at least 1 inch from contact with the Reptarium Enclosure. This is usually the distance performed by a lamp shroud. If not, try a larger shroud and/or suspending the lamp above the Reptarium Enclosure.
150watt and greater bulbs are longer than 60watt or 100 watt bulbs. These bulbs require at least 2 inches of clearance from the Reptarium Enclosure. A 150watt usually requires a larger lamp shroud to safetly contain the bulb at the correct distance. However, lamps vary in size so visually check to see if there are at least 2 inches or more of clearance between the bottom of the installed bulb and the opening of the lamp's shroud. If not, try suspending the lamp above the Reptarium Enclosure.
For ceramic heat emitters, and 1/2 inch to the above wattage and distance rules. (Never rely on the clamp feature that accompanies some commonly sold lamps, for use with the Reptarium Enclosures).
Other guidelines and considerations:
If discoloration occurs, add an additional 1/2 inch.
To prevent slippage of the lamp, secure cords to the frame using the included frame clips.
Some reptile species (iguanids, agamid, and most snakes) have a tendancy to push the mesh up from beneath the light. They see the brightness as a hole or way out. This can also cause the mesh and bulb to connect. Elevate or suspend the lamps to avoid this.
Reptile heating pads used beneath the Reptarium Enclosure and it's SofTray Cage Liner should not melt or damage your cage. Discard bent or damaged heat pads. Remember: If the pads were hot enough to damage your cage, than they would surely damage your reptile as well. Heat pads are a highly recommended alternate heat source as an accompaniment to the heat lamps.
The above guidelines apply ot heat lamps when used on screen tops of aquariums as well. Although, instead of melting, aluminium will heat up and may burn a reptile that climbs or touches that area of screen.
Follow the above advice and always pay attention to the lamps upon initial installment to make sure they will function safetly and effectively in providing heat to your reptile's basking area.
